Your are hung over and the big question is: What can you do about it? Unfortunately, not a whole lot. There is no one thing that cures a hangover except time. There are few things you can do to relieve the symptoms-the headache, nausea and fatigue-so you can get through the day best as possible.

Drink fruit juice. Fruit juice contains a form of sugar called fructose which helps the body burn alcohol faster. A large glass of orange juice for example can help accelerate removal of the alcohol still in your system.

Eat crackers and honey. Honey is a concentrated form of fructose and eating a little the morning after is another way of helping your body flush out toxins.

Have two cups of coffee. The coffee acts as a vasoconstrictor and reduces the swelling of blood vessels that cause headaches. No more than two.

Replenish your water supply. Alcohol causes dehydration of your body cells. Drinking plenty of water before bed and when you wake up may help relieve discomfort associated with dehydration.

The best and only fool proof cure for a hang over is 24 hours. Treat your symptoms as best as you can. Get a good nights sleep and the next day-hopefully-all will be forgotten.

Hippocrates said: “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.” Now scientists are beginning to understand that the food we eat each day can make the difference between life and death. A strong immune system offers protection against the common cold as well as against cancer; fights fatigue as well as fever; promotes resistance as much as recovery. Above all, your natural defenses depend on the state of your nutrition. The truth is that an apple may keep the doctor away but eating more fruits and veggies will keep you out of the hospital. The people whose diets are rich in these simple inexpensive foods are less likely to suffer from heart disease and cancer. I certainly am no expert, well not yet, however one thing on which all experts must agree is that increasing the total amount of fresh produce cannot possibly do any harm. We are reaping a bitter harvest from the diseases of civilization:heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, obesity, gall stones, liver failure are disease of over-consumption. We are being over fed and undernourished. HIgh fat, high salt, high sugar, growth hormones and antibiotics have not added to the nutritional value of what we eat today.

There has been a movement against criticizing children too much. Some schools and teachers don’t correct children’s mistakes, afraid that this will damage children’s self-esteem. One popular method tells teachers not to correct student’s spelling or grammar, arguing that kids should be treated as individuals. Teacher education coarses emphasize that creating a positive atmosphere is more important than correcting mistakes. Teachers have even proposed eliminating the word fail from education; instead of hearing that they have failed students shoudl hear they have deferred success. Office stores have started carrying large stocks of purple pens, as some teachers say that red ink is too scary for childre’s papers. Some teachers feel red has a negative connotation and it does not promote self esteem. Grade inflation is also out of control. Teh C grade is almost a thing of the past. Higher grades are given out even thought the student is doing less work. This basically means that we don’t expect our children to learn anything. As long as they feel good, that seems to be all that is required. Schools are tunring into places where children are insulated from the outside world and emotionally not intellectually nourished.

Nature was here something savage and awful, though beautiful. I looked with awe at the ground I trod on, to see what the Powers had made there, the form and fashion and material of their work. This was Earth of which we had heard, made out of Chaos and Old Night. Here was no man’s garden, but the unhandled globe. It was not lawn nor pasture, nor mead,nor woodland, nor lea, nor arable nor waste land. It was the fresh and natural surface of the planet Earth, as it was made forever and ever,-to be the dwelling of man, we say,-s Nature made it, and man may use it if he can. Man was not to be associated with it. It was Matter, vast,terrific,-not his Mother Earth that we have heard of, not for him to tread on, or to be buried in,-no, it were being too familiar even to let his bones liw there,-the home, this, of necessity and Fate. There was clearly felt the presence of a force not bound to be kind to man. It was a place of heathenism and superstitious rites,-to be inhabited by men nearer of kin to the rocks and to the wild animals than we….What is it to be admitted to a museum, to see a myriad of particular things, compared with being shown some star’s surface, some hard matter in its home! I stand in awe of my body, this matter to which I am bound has become so strange to me. I fear not spirits, ghosts, of which I am one,-that my body might,-but I fear bodies, I tremble to meet them. What is this Titan that has possession of me? Talk of mysteries! Second Day Blog

What a beautiful day it was. I decided to take a break from the rigors of study to enjoy what the today held. I took my daughters on a nice afternoon desert hike and used it as an opportunity to be grateful for my life and theirs. There really isn’t anything better than getting out in nature and having a moment of enlightenment about where you are and where you’re going.

I packed a nice lunch for each of us and a small blanket that fit in my pack. We hiked an area called the dog skin mountain range, at least thats how I remember reading it off the map. After two hours of walking and goofing off we found a nice little clear spot on the side of the mountain and it was perfect. After we filled up on grapes and bread &cheese we simply sat and enjoyed the silence that was all around us. My girls are very young and they even could appreciate this. The silence was filled our minds and the sun warmed our faces. I couldnt think of a better place to be anywhere than right there at that moment. It’s as if I was supposed to ber there. Everything up until this pont was because I was supposed to be there at that moment. It was glorious and a day I will not soon forget.

I am studying for a big exam that is coming up that will help decide whether or not I get into Nursing school and I take this lovely test in 3 weeks. I started studying today and discovered that a good portion of the test involves physics. I have never taken physics and have no idea what I am reading. I am officially freaking out over this and can’t help but wonder if all this hard work will have been for nothing. Why is this subject so important in my becoming a good nurse? If it were that important then why isn’t it a prerequisite? I am so screwed or at least I feel that way right now. I haven’t come this far to give up now but I feel like I may not defeat this. Why have I taken this on at this point in my life? I’m not sure if I have the brain power. Oh well, too late now. Like I said, I have worked too hard to give up now and this is what I’m supposed to do so somehow I will persevere. Somehow in the next three week I will learn enough Physics to get a significantly above average score.
